RE: 16 openings for judicial circuit representatives

Dear SCBLA Members:

Happy New Year and I hope each of you started the new year off with a bang! Speaking of a bang, SCBLA wants to start 2018 the same exact way. As a part of our 2018 vision, SCBLA seeks valuable input from each of you. So, we decided to start the ball rolling by asking and seeking our members to assist us to fill 16 openings for judicial circuit representatives to the SCBLA Executive Committee pursuant to our Bylaws. How do we plan to accomplish this goal? I am glad you asked!

Please find attached the 2018 SCBLA Judicial Circuit Representative Nomination form. If you or any member are interested in serving as a judicial circuit representative, please complete the attached form and return to: SCBLA_Sec@comporium.net. Also, attached for your convenience is our SC Judicial Circuit map to assist you. Likewise, the 2018 SCBLA Judicial Circuit Representative Nomination form may be found on the SCBLA website at www.SCBLA.com. Please encourage our fellow lawyers, who may not be members, to join and get involved with SCBLA.

So, I implore each of you talented and amazing SCBLA members to help SCBLA meet one of its 2018 goals by nominating yourself or another SCBLA member to serve as a circuit representative.

Thank you in advance for your support and we sincerely look forward to receiving your forms in response to this call to serve.

Sincerely,
Leah B. Moody

SC Black Lawyers Association sets 2018 scholarship goal for the Honorable Matthew J. Perry Scholarship

December 15, 2017 by Leah Moody Leave a Comment

As of December 15, 2017, the South Carolina Black Lawyers Association (“SCBLA”), with the assistance of the SC Bar Foundation (“SCBF”), set its goal to fund the Matthew J. Perry Scholarship (“MJPS”).  The scholarship program was established in honor of the Honorable Matthew J. Perry, Federal District Judge, South Carolina and Civil Rights Legend.

All contributions are tax deductible as a result of our newly established relationship with the SCBF, a non-profit corporation with tax exempt status under 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code.

Donors desiring to contribute to the MJPS may mail their contributions to SCBLA or directly to:

SCBLA
c/o SC Bar Foundation
Post Office Box 608
Columbia, South Carolina 29202

Donors may contribute online after December 18, 2017 at www.SCBarFoundation.org under “Awards and Program” section – the Honorable Matthew J. Perry Scholarship.

The SCBLA has set its 2018 goal at $20,000.  All members are challenged to make a contribution of $100 towards this scholarship program to help rising 2nd and 3rd year law school students with the costs of their legal education. Please consider helping SCBLA meet this 2018 goal!

Sincerely,
Leah B. Moody
SCBLA Vice-President
